I need to hatch out a career for myself that is flexible enough to allow me to still put my family first. I am willing to go to school and learn anything that would enable me to do this. Either work from home, or provide a flexible work environment, and I would like to make around $60,000 a year. I have begun looking into accounting, as that is all that I can really come up with. Any other ideas about a good career field for a single mother are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Nursing is a potential option. You’re looking at 3-5 years of school depending on what kind of program you attend, but employment opportunities abound, compensation is good, and the hours can be great. A staff nurse with RN qualifications can expect to make around $60k to start, depending on what kind of facility you work in and where in the country you’re talking about. Salaries can be as low as $50k in poorer areas or fields, and as much as $70k in richer areas.
