REC says jobs market is improving

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has hit out at claims the UK jobs market is ‘deceptively healthy’. The TUC issued the warning ahead of Wednesday’s unemployment figures, saying more people are being forced to take part time and temporary work. The number of people out of work in Britain fell by 3000 to 2.46 million in the 3 months to December. REC Chief Executive Kevin Green says ‘temporary work provides and important bridge back into eomployment and helps to develop the skills, experience and confidence to access permanent job opportunities. Flexible working options provide real benefits for job-seekers as well as employers; they must be recognised not stigmatised’. The latest JobsOutlook survey from the REC shows only 2 per cent of employers intend to make more cutbacks. 94 per cent say they will maintain or grow their workforce in 2010.

Public sector jobs cut prediction disputed

Predictions that half a million jobs will be lost in the public sector are being disputed. The CIPD recently said 500000 would go over 5 years. Phil Flaxton from Work Wise UK has described that figure as ‘excessive’. He agrees cuts will be made, but they will not reach such a high figure. Flaxton added that many businesses have reacted well during the recent recession when compared with the economic crises seen in the 70s, 80s and 90s. He says: “I think organisations in both the public and private sector have been far more creative this time around in looking at things like flexible working, shorter working weeks in order to keep people employed.”

What are some good paying jobs that are flexible with college students’ hours?

I’m 17 and just started college in Miami, and it’s hard to find a good paying job that is flexible with hours. I turn 18 in a few weeks so should be able to aply in more places now. I’m thinking a teller at a bank, or working at Home Depot. Got suggestions?? Good looking out for those who answer…

What are some good flexible jobs for a student?

I plan to major in business finance and I’ve completed my core and have an associates in liberal arts. In the fall I plan to transfer to a 4yr university as a full-time student. I’m used to working the 8-5 Mon thru Fri schedule however since I will be attending school full-time I need a flexible job. I was thinking of applying at Sam’s, but what other options do students have besides retail?

What types of jobs would be best for someone like myself?

I am a 40 year old woman with a high school education and not looking to take any addtional schooling (don’t have the time or money to do so) I have worked in retail for many years and hate it, the pay is poor, I hate having to wear a uniform when I have so many cute outfits, I am limited in tranportation as I have to take the unreliable bus, so I am not looking to commute alot, and would prefer working from home. I want to have a flexible schedule, work when I am most motivated (sometimes that is midnight) and make a good living to live modestly. What kind of work could someone like myself do that would fit my criteria? Remember I have no money (actually in bankruptcy at the time), and not special talents . I need to bring home about 1,200 a month after taxes.
